A guy I work with was giving me a tip for getting rid of your scent before you hit the stand. He said he gets a little leaf fire going the night before and hangs his gear next to it, then seals it in a bag overnight. He claims it's always worked because the deer are used to the smell of fire.

I've always just used a spray bottle of that scent killer stuff, and I've never been certain that it actually does much, so I'm intrigued by this. Anyone done something like this before and gotten results?

It kinda depends on the area, I think in my area the smell of fire equates to danger which probably isn't the greatest cover scent.

I walk into the middle of a smaller cedar tree and proceed to rub around it the best I can. Since all I can smell is cedar afterwards, I assume to deer I am just a walking cedar tree... which is nice because the farm is full of them.

I saw more game after workin cattle, then hunting afterwords.....
No camo, nothing. Street clothes, covered in cow sheit, and that fresh cow smell. I ALWAYS saw more game. Just hated workin cattle, wasnt worth it lol.

My friend cuts down Pine branches, sticks his clothes in a garbage bag with the branches and dont take them out unless he is wearing them......But he has never seen a deer either, so....

My favorite way to hunt is find where they cross through a funnel point, and sit down wind of that spot. Never fails.
