I took my V8 swapped '86 Ranger out for a test run last night and immediately ran into problems.

I'm using the stock 3/4 bore master cylinder that was in the truck, stock plastic line, and a 3/4 bore Toyota Land Cruiser slave cylinder. The clutch is VERY stiff with this setup... no big deal, so I'll have a huge left leg, that will match my huge right arm. :icon_rofl:

Only problem is I completely destroyed the master cylinder. Like broke it in half, bent the push rod and everything, just with one push of the pedal in a parking lot.

Again, whatever, maybe it was just cracked or something from the last 20+ years of use. BUT maybe not... ? What if it was the extra force required to push the pedal that broke it since the original slave cylinder had a drastically different bore size.

Anyway my question here is are there other master cylinders that will at least kind of bolt up, that have a different bore size so I can exert more force on the slave, with less effort from my foot, hopefully making the master cylinder last longer than 80 miles?

I see that 86-87 master cylinders are 3/4 bore, and 88+ are 7/8 - do they bolt up the same, and if so, would that help?

There was a similar thread, I'll see if I can find it. IIRC they used a '85 f-150 master with the metal top, it has 1 1/8" bore.
Good luck,
Richard
Edit; also the connections faced the opposite way and you need an adapter for the lines.

I used and recommend NAPA pn NNC 39896, 7/8" bore, from an '89 Ranger (among other years) It will bolt right in, it bolted right into mine, which it doesn't fit, if that makes sense...
