I like a torch, too. But MAPP gas, not oxy-acy. With a MAPP torch you can loosen any stubborn fastener and not risk damage to treated parts. Much, much hotter than propane. With a kit, you can use the red oxygen bottles with it and make the extra heat. But you don't need it.
I'm also a hammer fan. My brother came from the city to the woods about 20 years ago to visit. I was splitting wood, which I heated with back then, and he took my sledge and swung it at a wedge and hit the handle, breaking it. It became an 8# hammer with an 8" handle. I have used it ever since for close-in dirty work. Heat it with MAPP and smack it with the 8# fist.
