I have a 97 Ranger with a 2.3...I remember someone telling me about a 2.5 stroker kit for it, but don't remember where to find it. I don't necessarily need the stroker kit, but would like to maybe bore it a little, and perhaps a cam with a little lope, performance injectors.
Also an exhaust header. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Read here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/4cylinders.shtml

2.5l Lima engine(1998-2001) was your 2.3l engine with a different crank and connecting rods, so stroked, you can just add those to yours.

Your '97 2.3l is rated as 112HP, 1998 2.5l is 117 or 119HP not sure it would be worth the money

98-01 short block will give you a 2.5.. although the most power gains come from a better flowing head, the stock lima heads are real restrictive. bigger injectors doesnt always work due to computer limitations, the trick is being able to suck more air/fuel and squeeze it tighter for more power, not just add more fuel to the mix.

Turbo? From a Thunderbird turbo coupe or Mustang SVO.

Lots of other performance parts out there. Simple stuff like deeper gears in the axles can be an improvement.

My 2.3 was bored .30 over factory when I had it rebuilt. No other mods. It is pretty snappy for a 4 cylinder, I have no clue how much power it actually makes but it feels a fair bit stronger than any other 2.3 I've had. I can actually hold a normal speed on the interstate now, which is a pretty amazing feat in itself.

Massive amounts of work and money in cam, header, porting, etc will gain you marginal HP. Changing injectors to a larger size won't do much if you don't have the ECU programmed to account for them.

The real solution, blow on it with a hair dryer.
