Well I bought a 3004 Explorer, that is generally in very nice condition.
Problem is , which I knew going into it , is the engine is toast.

Both the ranger and explorer have a sohc 4.0.
My 04 in particular , has the drive by wire .

I am aware that the bellowing patterned are the same , heads are the same .

My question , because there are more sohc rangers in the wrecking yard than exporters, can I swap the intakes , and misc. Sensors , to make this swap .
This is a flipper , but might keep it for the wife.
So I do want to get this done as efficiently and least expensively as I can.

No hacking of wiring harnesses, cobbled accessory brackets etc.
Thanks guys and gals.

4.0l SOHC are basically all the same for block and heads, so yes you can swap 1997 to 2010 from or to, Explorer/Moutaineer, Ranger/B4000, and Mustang.
Mustangs did uses different cams, less torque more HP

4x4 Ranger/B4000 4.0l SOHC's often had balancer shafts, these can be used in 2WD or with in 4WD it won't cause a vibration with or without it.
Ford just "thought" they would need it with "Live axle".

Always change rear main seal and Knock sensor on SOHC
If 2004 or older do the timing chains and cassettes as well.

Thank you sir.
This is kind.d of what I was finding, but some of the info was a bit confusing.

Can you explain to me what the balancing shafts are, and are they internal or external to the engine ?

After some more eye strain, I have found the answer to my own question.
Getting old has its own set of problems ;(

I was going to buy a 3004, but to my dismay it wouldn't fit in my time machine for the ride back to 2016.
