Question about jeep front axels

Looking to get started on getting the stuff to sas swap my b2 and I was wondering how/if anybody has used the dana 30 front Axel out of Cherokee on there sas swap

Go full size dana 44 and Ford 9 in!!!

I most likely will because of jeep lack of manual hubs but I want to keep the Axel under the b2 I don't want my wheels sticking out way past. The body and with full size axels that what's gonna happen so maybe I'll try to find something out of a early bronco

Absolutely NEVER EVER EVER use a Jeep axle. I know it's been done to death, but I've actually worked on those Jeep axles. 6 hours to do 4 ball joints, then if they aren't in just right when you get to the alignment rack, you have to go back, take them out, and reposition them.

Finding an EB axle or cutting down a full size might be more work and cost NOW, but in the long run the better setup of the Ford axles will be worth it.

Cherokee axle under a B2...yes it works. I have one under my 88 Ranger. I took all the coil stuff off and hung it with leafs. I don't care what everyone else says but I have been running this axle under my ranger for better than 2 years....I have never broke it. This truck is strictly a trail truck that is running a 4.0, 35 inch tires, a powertrax locker and 4.10's. If that is the way you want to go then do it. I did!

My bitch about them is they don't have hubs so if you run a locker it has to be one you can manually engage or it has drive ability problems on the street. A cut down 44 would be the best but then your changing lug patterns and what do you do for the back and who wants to overpay for EB parts.

if you're going with Jeep axles, I know probably a more expensive option but maybe worth it...get a D44 out of a TJ Wrangler Rubicon. They all come with 4.10 gears and a selectable air locker, WMS to WMS is 60.5".

JK Rubicons have electric lockers but I think are quite a bit wider.

I am going to be doing the dana 30 swap soon myself. Around here it is hard to find a rubicon 44 and there is a manule hub kit for the 30 that is still cheaper than the cut down 44 and easyer to find parts for. Some trails here are going to a 72" width restriction so I wont to stay under that. If you stay with 35" tires or smaller the stock axles are good but if you go any bigger I would change to a stronger shaft.

if your worried about lug patterns with a cut 44 up front use a 9" in the rear or atleast a 8.8 with wheel adapters. you wont want to keep the 7.5. or atleast I wouldnt. good luck with your build!

The kit to swap the jeep Axel is almost 900 bucks. I'm only want to go up to 33's but have the abilty to clear 35's just in case. Most likely will end up going with a hp 44 and a 8.8 or 9 inch just depends on what I find in my price range and not worried about lug pattern but the with of the over all rig is my concern what is the width of a b2 with a fullsize d44 on it from outside tire to outside tire

JK Rubicons have electric lockers but I think are quite a bit wider.

The Rubicon axles aren't real D44's until you get into the JK axles... They have a D44 sized ring gear, but everything else is D30 size, it's basically a D30 with D44 ring and pinion...
