Not sure where to post this so it it needs to be moved ok.

I have a 94 ranger xlt auto 4x4 that I’ve been fixing up. I found a mint 94 4door Explorer for $700, only issues with it was the trans was toast and only moves in reverse.

I’m in the process of swapping the dash from the explorer to my ranger. I have a few questions while I’m doing this.
1 is that dash harnes the same between the Explorer & ranger?
2 did 94 Explorers come with the key fobs to unlock doors? If so where would the security module be located?
3 would I be able to swap it into the ranger? Than get a new fob and program it to the module?

If I can swap over the whole harness than my plans for putting in power windows & locks would be simplified a lot. By swapping the harness in the doors as well and retiring the switches.

Oh and no I won’t be selling off the suspension or motor parts. Planing to make a mud buggy out of it. I will be selling all the body & interior parts as soon as I transfer over all the good usable interior to my ranger.

I would think you could transfer the power window components but the door panels for the switches wont. I got everything for my 94 out of a 97 and I had to fabricate the wiring for it all. I got the wire bundle from the cab and cut it just inside the kick panels as I could not access the rest in the time I was at the yard (pick and pull type) so I then just ran wire harness to appropriate colors. The door locks do not work but I have aftermarket so no biggie. Mirrors were set up same way. Electric seats came out of 01 eddie baurer explorer pretty much of a drop in the seat belts were needing to be extended but thats about it. Ran hot wires direct from aux fuse panel under hood. Stuff is hot all time as I did not look for the source of key on use. Got a CD from the net on the 97 wire diagram for the color codes. Oh yes did install relays in the power circuits.

Well so far I’ve discovered the plug connectors for the cruise control are different. Ranger connects directly to the cruise controller, while the explorer has wires from the controller and 2 connectors mid harnes going into the firewall.
