So i've noticed that some rangers have upper intake manifolds that have 2 runners and some of them (later models) have 4 intake runners. My 1994 mazda 2300 has the 2 upper intake runners that leads to the intake plenum and opens up to 4 intake runners for each cylinder. I'm wondering if swapping the 2 runner upper intake manifold for a 4 runner upper intake manifold will have any performance gains. I notice that there are a few minor differences like where the vacuum ports are, but seems like if you can find the right one, or maybe even swap the lower manifold with it, it'll bolt up easily and just may have to reroute some vacuum lines.
Discuss.

Mustang forums would be a better place to look for that info

Intake runners are designed/tuned to boost power in a certain RPM range, they act like mini-turbo at a specific RPM and then near that RPM
When an intake valve closes it creates a pressure wave that bounces back and travels up the runner, when it reaches the end of the runner it bounces back the other way.
If the "return" pressure wave gets back to the intake valve as it opens then it forces more air/fuel into the cylinder for more power, mini-turbo.

Most intake changes claiming more power are anecdotal, but it doesn't mean it doesn't work, just no science for why.

The 2.3l Lima engine was used for many years in the Fox body Mustangs(1979-1993), so many "hotrod" tips out there for what might work and what doesn't work :)

Thanks for the reply and information! I'll check out the mustang forums and see if there's any more info or if anybody has tested different intake manifolds.
