Okay so I know I broke every in written rule amongst the blue bloods and the GM heads here when I took the original 4.0 v6 and junk AL4D auto out and dropped I'm a 357hp 407 ft lbs 350 crate hooked to a 2 speed power glide now let me explain myself.... First of all the trannys was bad in my 400 dollar ranger however the entire truck was solid (I live in the northern part of NYS in the Adirondacks ) I had a mint 2 speed giving to me and after I saw how much easier it was to slip in a SBC in place of the sweet running 215000 no 4.0 I scraped the original idea of 351w and went with the 350 now I have 3.08s and so far I have been able to hit 120 mph in 1st comes out of the hole decent but damn when she gets twisting is it fun as hell I bet I can run a mid ten with thing.....id love to here y'all 's thoughts on this mut of a truck I have built

Sounds like a fun truck. Got any pics? There are a couple other people that have done chevy swaps but I haven't heard of any using the 2-speed.

I found that a sbc was a lot easier and a lot less mods to make work in these little trucks the main issue is the fact that SBFs are front sump engines SBCs on the other hand are rear sump engines That and for every on ford or mopar I can build 3 SBCs

UPDATE the 350 sync is not happening instead I'm using the 350 block with its mighty 4 inch bore and using a 283 crank and rods for its tiny 3 inch stroke and building a 302 svc yes I read that right I am building the not so famous 302 Chevy. The 302 Chevy came in the 69 Z28 cars for the trans am races because of the 5.0 liter cap however these mighty little power plants can twist 8000 rpms. For those of you who have never heard of these engines look it up on YouTube. I'm still using the 2 speed so when all is said and done this little ranger ranger will be a weapon of road destruction

Update

Got the engine sent it out after I stripped it down to the bare block should have it back by the end of the week had it decked and bored .30 over also I picked up a set of the double hump heads (aka 202's) once the engine is back the heads will go out next to be shaved and then the trans mission will also be sent out to be rebuilt. My power glide is air cooled with the option for liquid cool so I will end up putting in an external oil cooler for the trans mission. I'm hoping to squeeze out about 400hp. Before I set the motor in I'm going to box the frame I've already removed the box and the cab simply because it is a lot easier to box the frame with the body off.

===================
283 crank ain't goin in a 350 block without bearing sleeves. The 302 was done by boring a 283 block .125 thousands, comes out to like 301.99 cubes, or by destroking a small journal 327 block and using a 283 crank, the large journal 327's couldn't be used with a 283 crank without sleeves.

BTW: I have a 62 model 283 sittin in my garage with this EXACT thing in mind down the road.............and the 302's would spin close to 10,000 rpms:icon_twisted:.
I had a 69 Z/28 my Junior & Senior year of HS:yahoo:. WISH I STILL HAD THAT CAR!:bawling:

Ok bobby, ill bite. I consider myself pretty knowing of what engines have/are out there, but WTF is a 302 mopar? A bored 4.7L?

EDIT

Actually, i think i remember hearing about those, similar to the chevy 302 in that it was born to meet SCCA(?) Cubic inch rules in the late 60s/early 70s ran in challengers? Very few were built though. Or am i totally wrong?

Actually a 302 mopar is pretty simple...
Take a 440 cid. Bore it .040 over, then cut either the front 2 or rear 2 cylinders off ( builders choice) and it will leave you with a big block 302cid V6!

Yeah, the same thing that spawned the Boss 302 as well.

IIRC it started out as a 340, it has been awhile since I have been thru my Mopar books so I don't exactly remember if it was debored or destroked (I wanna say destroked)

Production AAR 'Cudas and TA Challengers had 6-pack 340's though.
