From Long Bed To Short Bed?????

I have a long bed single cab ranger and really like the looks of the short bed....but dont want to change trucks....
does anyone know if it is possible to change to a short bed?
I know the short bed is 6' shorter and that a guy I know did turn his full size jeep long bed truck into a short bed

um....wow, it'd probably be much easier to just get a short bed truck. To actually shorten the truck I would imagine you've have to shorten the wheelbase, which means cutting the frame, the lines, fabbing up new mounting points for your gas tank and rear end, not to mention getting a whole new driveshaft....

Actually, it is.

the wheelbase is 6" longer. The bed has a foot difference, go measure one. compared to a short bed, the long has: 6" in the front between the cab and rear wheels (thus the 6" longer wheel base). And 6" after the rear tires.

All you'd really need is to move the rear axle up 6", lop off the back foot of the frame and attach the rear bumper, and then reinstall bed with (probably) re-located bed bolts. there may be some issues arise from the fuel filler neck and gas tank as well. Most likely being solved by purchasing a regular bed setup. shorten the existing driveshaft, or find a short bed one. And clean p the exhaust a bit.

Thats all I can think of right now, I'm sure some other issues will arise though.

You'd get a bit more help if you eased up on the attitude. For this kind of project most of what needs done is pretty obvious too, make things shorter. As much as I hate it when people have told me this, it really borders on "if you have to ask, you shouldn't be doing it"

That is a huge difference. I'm also pretty sure that the frames between the two are quite different. (in regards to where they curve up behind the cab, and where the front spring hangers mount) It's too dark and cold for me to play with a tape measure tonite......:D

thanks for all the help! Makes sense! I was just taking into account the wheelbase. I think Im just gonna settle for having a longer bed.
Too much work and truly if I have to ask then I should not be taking on the project.
clears up any of my doubts.

and the extra 6" of wheel base gives you that much more room for a longer three point suspension... giving you more wheel travel without going crazy angles on the driveline.

consider just bobbing the bed??? itll obviously make it shorter, if you dont hate how it looks its probably something you should look into
