So I'm finally looking to do a V8 swap with my truck but after many hours of lurking and sifting I'm still somewhat baffled as to what exactly I need. I would like to swap in the 302.

Here's what I currently have:
1992 XLT Extended cab 2wd

Originally it was automatic with the 4.0; after an unfortunate accident befell my fathers '96 B4k, we decided to swap out the engine and the transmission out of the B4K and into my '92. So currently it has the engine and transmission from the Mazda, the intake from my '92, and the transfer case from the Mazda so the driveshaft would fit.

What I am wondering is what parts do I need to swap in a 302 and keep it manual, either with the current transmission or a different one if the current can't take the new motor. It also needs to pass emissions here in Colorado if that is an issue.

Thanks much!

Your original transmission will not work, and unless you can find a used adapter for the old transfer case, you will also have to upgrade to a full size transfer case. I did the same conversion to my 1992 XLT/extended cab, so if you search through my build you may find help there. I'm not sure mine would pass emissions in CO since the EGR is removed, but that is easily retained if you need it.

Tcase adaptors are a joke. Spend a couple hundred bucks to keep the stock tcase or bite the bullet and spend $50-150 for a fullsize t-case.

In the OPs post he said 2wd, they used the transfer case to retain the driveshaft, so in a V8 swap I assume he'd use a 2wd transmission

Yeah, that was what I was getting at, I'd keep it 2wd. That was just background info in case it mattered.
