I am doing the 4.0L engine swap. My B2 was heater only and the doner has A/C. My question: Does anyone know if an evaporator case from an 1993 Explorer will fit into a 1986 B2. I know that the mounting holes are compatable but I am not sure if there is clearance between the evaporator case and the 4.0L engine. Before I drop in the 4.oL engine I would like to know if it will fit? PS: I found a A/C control head on Ebay.

I have a 93 Ranger AC bolted in my 86 now went right in as I did my 4.0 swap I changed the dash too all the controls for the AC are in it.Plus the wire loom plugs in from the donor car. It's a little scary though with no dash, motor, tranny, empty firewall what you've done to your car at that point

It'll all bolt right in.

But frankly I wouldn't use the a/c from a 1993 donor even though you have the stuff...

I'd go get my donor parts off a 1994 (use the 1993 A/C wiring harness)

Why?

Because the 1994's were built for R134a refrigerant, 1993's for R-12.

Well I did find out that they was a hole in the condenser so I ordered a new one. Also I had to modify the metal side shields on the B2 at the top to clear the tubes. Also the bottom where the condenser mount was all rusted away so I need to add some plates.
I do plan to convert to R135a in the process of adding A/C. I need to check into what parts I really need to change.
