My newly purchased 01 Ranger "Check Gage" light came on? What does that mean?

Thanks for the reply, Beef.

All the gages read normal when I parked it. The light just came on as I moved it from the street to the driveway (20'). I checked fluids and lifted the radiator cap and put gas in in it and will re-check the gas cap.

How much gas was in it while it was parked? Did you have it parked on a hill?

whatever you do, I would not advise going to autozone for the free check engine light scan. It is generic and it will not give you the exact code to what the problem may be. The community college I go to has scan tools and it will give you the code as to what the problem is. Try possibly finding one near you or somewhere that may have a scan tool

an OBDII scanner is an OBDII scanner. they will all give you the exact same codes and you can only pull codes from an OBDII vehicle with a scanner intended for an OBDII vehicle (unless you know what your doing). its about as foolproof as it gets.

but a "check gauge" light isnt a "check engine" light. there are no trouble codes associated with the former. it means simply to check your gauges.

The obvious thing to do would be look at your dash and 'check' what guage is reading in a redzone.

Then take it to autozoo or your local skewl and see what they think it means.....

Judging by what you mention I think it is just a low fuel indicator. I was curious if my truck had it and one day the gas got low enough thats what it was. The "check engine" light on my 01 is yellow and the gas gauge says "check Gauge" and it is red. If it is the red one then it just means you were most likely low on fuel. If you weren't low on fuel then I have no idea what it could've been.
