I bought a 98 Ranger 2wd 4 cylinder 5 speed last week. It will be my work truck, and save me a lot of gas compared to my K2500.

The truck has 209k, and the drivers seat is getting a little worn. The cushion has a lot of give and you can feel the metal supports in the seat. The center console is also in pretty rough shape. I've read that you can swap Explorer seats in, what years should I look for? Do I need both seats, or can I find one that matches the passenger seat?

I also want to step up to a 15" wheel and 235/75-15 AT or MT tires to add a little offroad capability to the truck. I checked the axle code and I have a 3.45 open diff right now.

What are the chances of finding a 4.10 LSD at a junkyard? 4.10s and a 29" tire will be close to the same gearing that I have right now. How hard is this axle to swap in?

Take the cover off the seat and replace the padding. Easy to do and cheap!!!

Its a work truck and you bought it to save money. Fix the seat or replace with the newest one you can find. If you do much loading, keep the 14s. Its a work truck not a hot rod :D

I drive on a lot of gravel that eats car tires alive. Got a rock cut already in one of the rears today. Stepping up to 15s will allow for AT tires that hold up a lot better.

I will start scoping out the local yards pretty soon and see what's out there.

Thanks for the replies and link.

Failing is easy. Everyone can do it.
Seats in our '95 where extremely bad.

Local Pick and Pull sells them for under $20 a seat.

Found a really nice set that is almost a 100% color match from a Mountaineer. Only issue? We have manual, that was electric and 2001 if memory serves. Seat bolts under allow for mounting the seats to both electric or manual adjustment. Self tapping as well. Made for simple install. Sure it doesn't say "Explorer"...(beggars can't be choosers...) But these are reallyyyyyy nice seats and we're no longer playing 'scrap arse' on the seat back release for the 2 door anymore.
