A quik question here !!! I have a 93 Ranger 4X4 with a 4.0 in it thats gettin pretty tired !! I want to do a swap but want to make sure all things will work before buying this motor !! So the question is I found a guy with a 2000 Ranger with a 4.0 OHV, 9K miles on it, and wonder will this be a direct swap engine or are there things that need be done to make it work in my 93 ???

Thanks in advance for any info !!

It will not be a direct swap.

but it won't be a horrible swap either.

you will need to swap over your intake and possibly the oil pan so that you can use your 93 sensors and wire harness. the 2000 4.0 also has an 8 bolt crank, so you will need the newer flexplate/ flywheel for it to work on your truck as well.

There are a few internal changes as well, but I am not sure if they will be an issue. (heads and pistons changed in specs)

If you keep the 2000 4.0 a long block, you will be ok. Bolt on your intake, oil pan and you're good to go. As stated, the flexplate is different, so either get that with the donor or you'll need to buy one. The internals are different, but as long as you don't pull the heads, you're fine...

Thanks !! It already is a manual like mine and it has the clutch, press plate and flywheel on it. By the way would you know if these have the same oiling problem as mine !! Thats one of the reasons I am thinking of changing mine out as it has that terrible rocker arm chatter but its also really lacking in power. I don't really want to do a major rebuild on mine as it is very time consuming. Id rather just do a change out if possible but if it has the same oiling issues as mine I want to change out the pushrods and rockers with the ones from Delta before dropping it in !!
