im getting 12.30 with 31's and 3.73 gears (4.0 and a 2.9 5 speed). Not sure whats up, I know the speedo is off just a little, it was on with 235s (28's). Engine has less than 3000 miles on it. Only code its throwing is related to a neutral sensor which is getting fixed. new fuel filter, new air filter, IAC is working, maf has been cleaned...

Remember that if your speedo is off, so is your odometer so you really can't accurately gauge what your mileage is until you fix the speedo. You can use a GPS to get your true speed by running at 50, see how far off the speedo is and multiply by 2 to get the percentage that you are off, then use the same equation to figure up the miles.

Some folks say "My speedometer is off by 5MPH". It isn't off by 5MPH at all speeds! It is a percentage.

Im getting around 12 in town and 13+ on the open highway with 35's, 4.88's and the A4LD.

The same setup with my 2.9 got a solid 9 mpg. :bawling:

Frankly I'd IGNORE the "neutral sense" switch.

Ignoring it is free.

Fixing it isn't.

I do transmissions for myself and others and I ignore mine.

It probably helps that there isn't a damned thing I can do about mine, because a 1994-up transmission has no provisions for the switch and my current trans is a '98

I get about 13-18 but its in a small town I can leave a stop sign any speed I want and highway means 55or 60 not 70 or 75.Another thing to mention I have 10.5 33s not 12.5 33s. if you take a lifted truck so it's exposed to the wind a 12.5 33s with aggressive tread takes a lot of energy to push down the road at 75 MPH.

With 33x12.50R15 MTs, 3.27 gears, 2" suspension and 2" body lift I would average 17 MPG highway with my Explorer. City MPG I can't really say due to too many variables. This was with speedometer correction, BTW. For one tank on a road trip, driving VERY conservatively (no faster than 60 MPH) I got 19.3 MPG highway. Also, due to the tall gears and 33s, I never used 5th gear. I have the M5OD-R1 5-speed manual, BTW.
