oil pressure gauge 99 4.0

periodically my oil pressure gauge shows no pressure. file to a few times then reads fine.
Any idea why

The oil pressure sender is an 8 psi SWITCH.

That switch makes your "dummy" gage read midscale.

I suggest you replace the sender. If that doesn't fix it, you may want to plumb a mechanical oil pressure gage into the sender port to see what your oil pressure really is.

The sender is a common failure item.
