Hi,

This is my first post.

I have been struggling with this issue all summer. I have replaced the following components on my inherited 94 Ranger XLT 4.0 RWD:

Accumulator
Evaporator
Orifice tube
Low pressure switch
Low pressure hose
High pressure hose
Condenser

Parts not replaced:
Compressor
High pressure switch.

I flushed compressor, other parts are all new. I have also evacuated the system for 40 minutes and checked for leaks for 40 minutes again without a change in pressure (-30). I added 7 oz of PAG 46 oil and 22 ounces for R134 refrigerant (Per label in evaporator housing. Pressure after fully charging it was 40/225. AC was very cold for about 30 miles on drive home from work and then just blew out a large amount of refrigerant and oil from the pressure relief valve.

On a previous occasion, I had gauge attached and AC was working fine. And compressor began to cycle off and on even though appropriate oil and refrigerant amounts were in system. As it turned off, pressure climbed rapidly. I turned off the AC and pressure would stop climbing.

Could there be something wrong with the compressor or High pressure switch since they are the only 2 components I have not replaced? Or could there be something else.

Thanks,

JAlvarado

the issue that I see is flushing the compressor vs/ replacing or rebuilding. everything that I have seen out there tells you *not* to flush the compressor as there are too many parts for that to be effective.

I personally would replace the compressor, and you will probably want to flush the all of the lines individually. replace the accumulator and dryer and orifice tube.

and yeah, I would replace the high side switch as well.

sounds like everything else is good to go.

My credo
Built not bought
On my old 4.0 in my 94 my fitting were you connect the lines was leaking at the Schrader valves replaced that and it was good for a few months . But the realize after it cycling a lot that the actually rubber lines was leaking from being dry rotted I guess and the dye we put in was lighting up all down the hoses . Just a idea

Edit : had a few beers and release you said it blowing out not leaking out slowly lol
