Hi,

Working on my recently acquired '98 Ranger 3.0L and I noticed the throttle cable has a lot of slack in it. I'll have to check, but it may not even open fully when the pedal is pressed to the floor...

So, at a glance I could not find any type of threaded barrel or anything to adjust the slack out of the cable. I looked at the firewall, pedal itself, and the bracket at the throttle body. All appear to be non-adjustable.

Am I missing something or is that just how this setup is?

Common issue on Rangers, stretched throttle cable.

There is no adjustment but there is a fix and it is simple :)

Google: Ranger throttle cable mod

You use zap straps(wire ties) on the gas pedal end of the cable to shorten it

Excellent, thanks!

Just wanted to make sure I didn't miss a barrel adjuster somewhere...

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

That would have been way too convenient. The cable tie mod seems to be working well for me. Irritating to install if you have to wear bifocals. I hate working under the dash.

Don't get louder, improve your argument.
I just did this to my Ranger. Noticeable improvement in throttle response. Almost feels like a new truck!
