I'm a noob to Rangers but not to engine/chassis swaps.
I just bought a 99 std cab 2wd Ranger with 2.5 man trans and am considering a swap. I have 2 engines I could use. originally I was going to use a 3.0L engine from a 91 SHO, but I'm leaning more toward a 4.6L from a Mark Viii.
I've identified most of the problem areas (there's always the ones you did'nt think of) and I'd like to know how those who've done it dealt with these issues.
The biggest one is the exhaust on the left side and the steering shaft. the stock M8 manifold ain't gonna happen but has anyone used a left manifold from a 2wd Lincoln Navigator? it looks fairly compact and I hate making headers. also how about the oil filter adapter? Is it in the way? Again, Nav unit repositions it behind the motor mount but also changes the mount somewhat.
Speaking of motor mounts, what works best?
Also it appears I'll have to do major surgery on the heater box and lose the A/C but i'm more concerned with clearance around the brake booster.
How about the oil pan???? Then there is PATS. I'm not sure but I think the M8 has it and not sure where it's hiding (a cabover I built had it in the cluster so I had to use the donor trucks gauges in the old trucks housing- PITA).
Any help from you guy's that have done it is appreciated. thanks.

You seem to have looked into this a lot more than I have, so I only have one thought.

For the oil filter, have you considered one of the OE-style oil cooler units from 97+ F-150/Expedition? Those relocated the filter up behind the bumper, so lots of length and lots of options.

The oil filter relocate is a great idea, Thanks!
And I have seen those posts (along with a few others), but it doesn't explain what has to be done with the steering shaft. I think I'm going to get that Navigator manifold and try fitting the engine with that and see where I have to adapt.
Luckily I got everything with the M8 engine including the harnesses and the PATS module so I think I can figure that out.

My credo
it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
you want the pats?

I would delete it. of course it could help with insurance but I am not a fan of it at all. seen too many people stranded because of it. finding a tuner that can shitcan it for you would be worth the effort to me...

there are swap headers for early mustang applications that may help as well. some stainless shorty street rods that would be simple to cut and rotate....I have seen reworked m8 manifolds as well. cut into a log style...two drivers sides modded to log style...

the truck manifolds I have seen before.

with a true 2wd sla, you want to build an intermediate shaft. you can do it with junkyard parts pretty cheap with a pillow block...

the m8 engine is fairly complex. but I have to admit very cool looking with the right parts selection.

look at all of the engines and packaging, and select from there. the 4.6 explorer/sport trac may offer some options...
