So recently i hydrolocked my 4.0, and after clearing the cylinders and 1500 miles later it droped a piston, and well made a paper weight lol. Now after 2 mounths of searching i bought a 96 explorer limited 5.0 with awd. Questions i have are ....
Is there a transfer case that can hold up too the v8?
And i would prefer to get rid of the stupid swith that has had me stuck in mud pits before.
Also what clearance issues am i looking at for different t cases?
Also any advise on issues in others swap with these rigs would be helpful.
Oh any one need top end parts for there 4.0?
Crank im sure is bent but not sure and i have all accessories and intake wiring etc. No cam tho sold already.

Pretty much any fullsize tcase will bolt to that trans.

NP208 and NP205 are the most popular for fitting, both have their advantages and drawbacks.

Is there any clearance issues when installing one under a ranger ext cab with the 125in wheel base?

The 205 is smaller, heavy enough (cast iron case and gear drive) to require its own mount to support. Has kind of a higher low range

The 208 is a bigger, aluminum with a chain so it is lighter and has a better low range. It may need some minor clearancing but I would venture to say it is probably the most common tcase used for a V8 swap in a RBV.

If you search there should be install pics of both on here.
