I am new to the site. I hope you guys can help me. I have a 1999 Ranger 3.0 flex fuel Vin code V with a blown up engine. I have been having some trouble finding a replacement. A friend of mine has a 2003 Ranger 3.0 Vin code U that was crashed and can be bought cheap. Does any one know if the engines will interchange? I will have the whole truck so if I need to change computers, etc I will have all the pieces. Thank you for your help.

If you have the whole truck to swap from then it can be done. There are a bunch of differences between flex fuel and regular 3.0s, like the fuel pump, computer, etc., so make sure to swap everything over.

Thanks for the quick reply. What about the long block? Are they the same? Can I switch all the 1999 flex fuel stuff on to the 2003 long block and put it together that way and avoid having to swap the computer , fuel pump, etc?

Yes, if you just use the long block, then you won't have to switch PCMs.

I was reading on another thread that a taurus/sable long block will also interchange? I have access to one of those as well. Is that true?

My credo
A properly suspensioned Ranger can be safely airborne for up to 4 seconds at a time! =:O

If you dig further you'll find that's a MUCH more involved project... head gaskets, motor mounts, PCM, maybe even flywheel, cabling and component locations, etc... I'd stick with the 2003 Ranger donor.
