Brakes Ticking

Just the other day my brakes started making a ticking sound when I would apply the brakes. When at a stop I don't have the pedal mashed to the floor but now when I get to my stopping point, I'll hear the tick and I can also feel it in the pedal like its just very slightly going down further every time I hear the tick then it'll get to a point and it'll stop. Any ideas what this could be? The noise is definitely coming from directly in front of the driver seat.

sounds like you have a rock stuck in your tire. that can feedback to the pedal. but check your brakes, you might be out of pad.

Pads are a week old. I'll look for rocks though

I am going to guess an ABS problem.

I have had rock pickin' up mud tires for years, never felt any feedback at all through brake pedal. I have thought I was being shot at when they let go though...

Is definitely abs, but out of ideas. Fuse is good, abs is plugged in, brand new abs sensor in rear end

When the pads were done did the slide pins get greased? The pins can make a tick like you describe as they get older, particularly if they don't get greased properly.

If greasing doesn't help you may need new caliper brackets.

I just did my front brakes and I am petty sure I greased everything I should. I'll try to check the bracket but everything looked fine to me

i thought these break pins weren't supposed to be greased. I was told that they'll collect dust dirt and debris and seize.... I just did my breaks over the weekend and i didn't grease those pins, and I'm experiencing the same tick the OP has mentioned... but for me it only does it once as i begin to drive then its fine after...

Your truck has a completely different slide pin setup.

85 is right. You have a different setup that isn't supposed to be greased. You probably need new king pins. The rubber in the middle is probably worn out.

His setup has two pins that go inside the bracket and have dust boots over them. If you don't grease them water can get in and they corrode up and get stuck. It's a big problem on Super Duty trucks that get used off road. More often than not we can't even get the pins back out and have to get a loaded caliper.

I only greased the bearings when I replaced them then anti seize on the back of the pads. Its possible grease got on other things from my hands but nothing comes to mind

Do you have ABS? (probably only rear which would still do it)

Yeah, rear only. I replaced the abs sensor with a new one for that original explorer. Should I have used my old ranger one?

yes i do... im going to change the wheel cylinders this weekend and bleed the breaks... (broke a bleeder valve in the close position on one of the rear wheel cylinder

OP, when you put new breaks on did you bleed the system?
