Hello looking for some recommendations for a v8 to swap in my 1990 ford ranger with the 2.3l 4 banger and 5 speed I was wondering what engine would yall recommend. should I find a f-150 or something from 90 with efi and swap it in. Or use mustang with a 302 or find an old carbed 302 it's 2wd and going to keep it that way my 4 banger has 180k+ miles on and my dad said to swap a v6 in it but I want a v8. and keep it a maunal 4 or 5 speed

And for my gauges will I need a new speed gauge or does it just run from the rear end or dose it run from the trans and rear end to the gague

Thanks Leon

You can carb any Ford EFI pushrod V8. Stock, the most powerful is the 1996-2001 Explorer Mountaineer 5.0. The 90's pickup motor will work too, but the accessory drive setup presets some problems. (as does most others) Your transmission will have to go. It won't handle a V8. About the easiest swap is a late 80's Crown Vic/Towncar/Marquis purely based on their accessory set up which pairs the P/S and Alternator on the driver's
side. This works out well as long as you don't keep the A/C. The Exploder/Mountaineer setup is shorter than the Vic as is the 94-95 Stang. These allow you more room to fit a radiator. Fitting headers is another obstacle you'll have to work out. DO your research before buying or committing to any swap.
