Not sure to be honest...my last deal with brakes involved the driver side brake cylinder leaking and for some reason I didn't get to replace it properly. I ended up plugging the line to that side after changing the cylinder...think the bleeder screw was pooched or something like that...

Drove it for about six months with only the passenger side rears working (and the fronts)...didn't even get to pull the new cylinder out of it before I sent it to Ranger Heaven...

But my Tempo rear brakes on the driver side blew out the line...plugged the master on that line and drove for six months before replacing the line...

Crazy. In the time I've been around TRS (13 or so years now?) I've never heard of this. Subscribing to see what others have to say...

I've never had good drum brakes on a Ranger. I've replaced everything but the backing plate before and they still weren't right. That's why I want my disc-braked 8.8 under the truck so bad....

On my old 73 high boy I had a stay pin break once. The pin the goes through the backing plate and holds the shoes. They entire system came apart and ground about a 1/2 deep groove, from the rivets in the shoes, in the drum. I replaced all the parts and new drums and never had it happen again. It was on the driver side as well. Only issue I have ever had. I have had my Ranger since 92 or so, and my Explorer since 06.

Well, this is an interesting thread.

I have or had 4 Rangers. Starting in 91. The only thing I have ever experienced on rear brakes is taking a look every 30K and doing maintenance every 60/80K. I push pedal and they keep the rear back there.

Unlike the old F series, when you really got on those brakes, you could find the rear passing the front.

:D:D Yup. I replaced everything between the backing plate and th drum. I learned to to keep the rears a tad loose in the adjustment. Stopping aint worth a thing if you're sliding backwards .

Make sure the E brake cables are free. New hardware kits are cheap. Take off both drums, but only do one side at a time. :D

Strange indeed. Had 10 RBV since 84 and never heard or seen this before. Usually very trouble free once they are working.

300000+ and haven't encountered anything like this. 89 F250 never had problem either except when seal leaked and shoes had to be R&Rd (warranty). Been around lots of fords never saw this either from old to new.
