i have an 86 bronco II with the 2.9 liter and a 5 speed. i seem to have a problem with the starter motor not turning the flywheel (which are both brand new). when i turn the truck over it will sound like it wants to start but then it will make a loud metal on metal noise, i have unbolted the starter and there seems to be no broken teeth on either the flywheel or the starter. what i dont understand is why this is doing this now and not before? any ideas???

oops i forgot to mention. when i turn the crank bolt on the front of the engine i hear a "click" sound as if the teeth on both the starter and the flywheel finally meet each other. so far i have done it twice with the same result

may be the solenoid, did you give it a little tap with a hammer or something to see if it kicks over????

You have one of two problems: Either the starter drive on your starter is defective and is not engaging the flywheel to crank the engine, or the flywheel has some broken or damaged teeth that are preventing the starter from engaging.
