Do you want to use your truck to haul your gear to the campsite ? Or prefer to camp IN the truck ?
Would having a lockable enclosed space on your truck be advantage, disadvantage, or nuetral for you the other 98% of the time you aren't camping ?
If you have a helper just standing there with their hands in their pockets , two people make it even easier to install/ remove aluminium cap . But it is absolutely possible by one person . Back in the day , I worked at an RV dealer, and one of my duties was installing the caps , and we routinely did it with one person .
If you contemplate ever removing and reinstalling , use clamps , not drill & bolt .
Purpose built clamps for capd are better than generic C clamps .
Aluminum roofs are noisy in the rain . But it doesn't kill you, or cause cancer , so get over it , it's * Camping * not the Holiday Inn . The point of aluminum caps is that they are lightweight , simple, and economical , don't undermine it's strengths just because of hearing the occasional raindrop. You'd be hearing the rain in a tent also .
