Sounds like you might be siding with government and NOT knowing ALL the facts. All the "facts" i'm hearing are from the media, maybe your sources are more factual,i believe this is another of the government saying one thing and doing another. I would bet if you ask "any" native american he's heard of this bait and switch. I'm not taking sides but I would imagine Mr. Bundy has a heck of a lot to lose than to to fight over something that he's sure to lose. I'm pretty sure to him this is principle., I do believe he's being observed as a "patriot" to his followers.
Lastly, what about the judicial system? Haven't heard anything about him going into a court of law and refusing to follow a court order. Pretty heavy handed by the government and the media blaming him solely for this defiance.
It's written into the Nevada state constitution that the state gives up all rights to public lands, that was 1864. All the lands since then unless sold or transferred to privite persons are federal lands. There have been several laws/acts passed thru congress that have updated the laws. Last big one was the Taylor Act of 1934 that consolidated several overlapping federal agencies into the BLM. Bundy never has owned the land but has used it, and family for many years. What Bundy is trying to do is ignore the federal government in favor of states rights, yes his principles. He is 20 years behind in his rent to the government that he had paid up till 1993. It's been battled in court for 20 years and he has lost every time. I don't how he is not guilty, maybe I'm missing something. I looked at our patent on the farm in SD issued in 1912 and it's from the federal government, not the state, signed by Woodrow Wilson. If Bundy had something like that, he would be free and clear.

I will concede that all this is true, my point is , according to the daughters statement if it is true, [ page #6 of this thread post #54 ] that Mr Bundy was paying the fees to the BLM and that the fees were to be used for helping manage and help pay wages for the BLM employees. then somewhere down the line there was misappropriation of the "fees" and that is where the problem started. And not trusting the government is where I come to believe Mr. Bundy.

Also, why would the Bundy family fight this battle and risk losing everything the family has built for a hundred and forty years if he knows he is flat out wrong?
It just does't make sense to me. There's way more about this that we don't know and it could boil down to "principle" in which case he will lose.

Harry Ried looks like such a nice old man but he would cut your throat just to watch you bleed. The fed has unlimited resources our tax dollars to prosecute Mr Bundy of course he will lose. Ried runs nevada from a desk in washington that should worry everyone, we are all vulnerable it dont matter what you have they can and will take it.

A government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take everything you have...a quote from one of our presidents or forefathers, can't remember which. Wonder if the BGC will ever show up at my kids' door wanting to inspect, or simply take, the old man's longarms and pistolas that may have made it onto a gummint list somehow. That's the rub for me in this rancher situation and others, the gummint grows and grows, gets fatter and fatter thanks to our do-nothing pack of professional congressmen/women, and the biggest agencies get uppity enough to do crap like this...all in the name of the people who are too lazy to manage/control their own gummint through voting. Welcome to third world Omerica, the future is here.

The Solar deal is at (or near) a dry lake bed near Moapa NV ( Indian reservation)
Bunkerville NV ( also same location of the FAA no fly zone over the ranch)
is only 32 miles away per google maps directions using roads.
A dry lake bed isn't worth fighting over for pasture rights...

The reason the "David vs Goliath" story has been passed down thru so many generations is because it is very, very, very rare for a "David" to win these conflicts.

I don't think this story is a "David vs Goliath" conflict, I think it is just a story of a guy who 20 years ago decided a policy wasn't fair and has now rationalized that into a stand against "unfair practices" by the BLM.
It isn't of course.
If it was he would have won in court.

You can pay your bills and still protest "unfair policies"

The BLM sent out 200 +- armed men to take down a man, his family and their cows for eating grass. If they smoked it they would be better off I guess. Bundy incurred what is in reality nothing more than a parking ticket. Illegal alien trespassers (11-20 million of them) are given a pass. Some of these illegals and their supporters are currently at the white house giving this Marxist administration demands on how they should deal with amnesty. They are trading our citizenship for votes to keep them in power. Open your eyes fellas. If amnesty goes through it's over!

I just heard that the BLM owns 1/8 of the U.S. and that they have their own army which rivals most other countries.

Harry Reid Calls Cliven Bundy Supporters “Domestic Terrorists”

snip from article:

Paul Joseph Watson
Infowars.com
April 17, 2014
Senator Harry Reid has escalated the war of words over the Cliven Bundy dispute, sensationally labeling the Nevada cattle rancher’s supporters “domestic terrorists” during an event in Las Vegas today.

During a ‘Hashtags & Headlines’ event at the Paris Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Reid referred to Bundy supporters as “Nothing more than domestic terrorists,” adding, “I repeat: what happened there was domestic terrorism.”

Reid was referring to the stand off on Saturday in Bunkerville where Bundy supporters, some of whom were armed, forced Bureau of Land Management agents to back down and release around 380 head of cattle belonging to Bundy that had been seized over the course of the previous week.

Reid claimed that Bundy viewed the United States as a “foreign government,” while accusing his supporters of goading violence.

“There were hundreds, hundreds of people from around the country that came there,” Reid said. “They had sniper rifles in the freeway. They had weapons, automatic weapons. They had children lined up. They wanted to make sure they got hurt first … What if others tried the same thing?”

There is so much going on that you had better find the right fact, sift thru both sides. It's all out there, the good and bad. Some of what I have read belong in the checkout counter of the grocery store, the ones that say "Aliens have invaded the Popes body" and such. I know the government owns a big share of the Western country, they bought it thru the Louisiana Purchase or won the western parts thru the Mexican war. Settlers have had many chances to buy land before Bundy's ancestors started farming. Have no idea of where the size of the BLM "Army" came from but people from several agencies were there. Post office buying ammo along with several federal agencies has actually dropped in quantity they requested, that's per an article in the NRA national magazine.
And 85_ranger said anybody to ranch in that land is crazy, anyone taken a look? The 3 mile no fly zone is right in the middle by the airplane symbol. Right in the corner next to Utah.

Terrorist is the governments favorite word. If they can make people believe you're a terrorist, they could lock you up in the interest of national security.

Homeland Security, and the use of the term 'Domestic Terrorist' are two very scary things when used together. Will it get to a point that you're a domestic terrorist if you don't side with government?

Harry Reid is trying to cause trouble. He's definitely not looking out for the good of the people.

I believe Cliven Bundy should have to pay the same fees anyone else does. If you're not going to make him pay, how can you expect others to? The federal government worries about their foreign diplomatic policies. Maybe they better find a diplomatic way to work this out.

I just looked up the definition of terrorist (yes, I knew what it was..) and it says:

a person who uses terrorism in the pursuit of political aims.
Maybe Harry Reid is the terrorist.

What bothers me now in this whole deal is this:

1: Americans ask their representatives to do their job and they refuse. ( many examples can be given).. Americans decide to take a stand and they're called the bad guys ( domestic terrorist).. What's the solution?

2: Harry Reid is now making comments..the SPLC is making comments.
( yes the same southern poverty law center that made the "domestic extremism" lexicon for the DHS) etc.

By Harry Reid declaring Bundy and the supporters ( militia and oathkeepers) as domestic terrorists...that makes them "enemy combatants" in the eyes of the Admin. ... That's why he keeps repeating domestic terrorists. That opens the door to a federal response. One that will allow ( DHS, NG) more troops, equipment, and hardware than the BLM has.

Now the next thing will be is for the MSN to start calling the supporters the same.
