Timing chain set on a ranger 3.0 wouldnt be to bad to deal with, A front-drive taurus would be more tough to deal with but still easier, faster & less costly than changing the whole engine.

3.0l Vulcan engine never had timing chain issues, in fact it doesn't even have a timing chain tensioner

Easy to change it if you have the front cover off to change the front cover gasket, which was a common coolant leak point on this engine
But as said not really required

3.0s will go for 300k+ even with so-so maintenance.
