Here is an oddball one I will share with you that happened to me long ago. It isnt common but it happens. I had done an ignition tuneup on a truck...plugs, plug wires, coil, cap and rotor. Anyway, had plenty of heat coming out of the coil but couldnt get it to go past the distributor. The cap and rotor were bought at Autozone. To look at them, they looked no different than an OEM factory replacement...but....as it turned out, the specific plastic that the rotor was made out of would not stop the fire from the coil and it was grounding out THRU the rotor and into the distributor shaft. Please dont ask me how long it took me to figure this out. End result, I went to the dealer and paid the stupid high price for the OEM cap and rotor and it fired up and ran immediately. Again, isnt common but just something to keep in the back of your mind.
