1997 3.0 2wd - I recently replaced my O2 sensors because it was throwing codes for them and its due at 100,000 miles. I was also having problems before i replaced them with the engine randomly cutting out for a fraction of a second but will turn back on on its own while I was driving and it got to the point where the engine would fully shut off while i was driving. After i replaced the O2 sensors it was a lot better but the engine still shuts off for a fraction of second while driving. I ended up checking the fuse and power to the fuse, those are both good. But, I checked power to the bank one sensor one O2 sensor and there is no power. I inspected the wiring harness and from what i could see there was nothing wrong. I don't really know what to do at this point.

Here are my codes:
P1443 - Evap emission purge valve malfunction
P1445 - Purge flow sensor circuit high input
P0133 - Oxygen sensor circuit slow response bank 1 sensor 1
P0135 - Oxygen sensor heater bank 1 sensor 1
P0141 - Oxygen sensor heater circuit bank 1 sensor 2
P0155 - Oxygen sensor heater circuit bank 2 sensor 1
P0301 - Cylinder 1 misfire
P0304 - Cylinder 4 misfire

Hows the main harness coming out of the ECM?

Honestly it could be a failed ECM. Thats alot of shit

In a 1997 Ranger Fuse 3(or fuse 20) in the Engine Bay fuse box is blown, 15amp
It powers the 3 O2 heaters

This fuse usually blows if one of the O2 sensor's wires got to close to exhaust pipe and melted
This fuse can also effect EVAP system

None of these codes could cause stalling
Once you clear the codes
Watch the CEL(check engine light), see if it goes off and then on when engine stalls

The harness looks fine, i disconnected it and reconnected it a couple weeks ago to check the connector for corrosion but it seemed fine.

Ok, i tested power to that fuse as well as the fuse itself and there was nothing wrong, i also switched it with a different 15 amp fuse and the problem(s) continued. The EVAP thing is good to know though, thanks - it must be something with wiring closer to the fuse. I'll try clearing the CEL later today and get back to you

OK, I cleared the codes, the check engine light did not come on when the engine stalls. I noticed that when I hold a the gas pedal down at a constant rate - I tested this in neutral - my code reader shows the ignition advance going up and down. May be related or help give insight to why it is doing the stalling thing.

If CEL didn't come after engine stalled, key still on, then computer was shut off and that's why the engine stalled
Check PCM relay and PCM use in engine fuse box

Check PCM relay and PCM use in engine fuse box
PCM relay is good - resistance is 68, and there is ~12v to the relay

Did Battery Light come on after engine stalled?
If not then you are losing all 12volt power to the engine fuse box

The check engine light did not come on. What could cause no power to the engine fuse box? Also after i took the relay out to test it the problem went away for ~4 days

1997 should still have the Starter Relay on the inner fender, near fuse box and battery
It will have 2 larger posts
One post will have Battery Positive wire connected, and several other wires with it
This post is the MAIN 12volt distribution for the whole vehicle

Disconnect either battery cable from battery
Remove the wires on that one post and clean them, reinstall

You will see the one wire from battery positive to this post, and then another wire from that post to the engine fuse box, ALL vehicle 12v power runs thru that one wire to fuse box
Other wire on that post is from Alternator, which provides ALL 12v power when engine is running, but still thru that ONE wire to the fuse box

Battery Positive------------starter relay post-----------------engine bay fuse box===to all fuses in vehicle
Alternator---------------------/

P0135 - Oxygen sensor heater bank 1 sensor 1
P0141 - Oxygen sensor heater circuit bank 1 sensor 2
P0155 - Oxygen sensor heater circuit bank 2 sensor 1
P0301 - Cylinder 1 misfire
P0304 - Cylinder 4 misfire
My 3.0 has that glitch when pulling a hill and has gotten worse finally pooped up a code bank1 sensor 2 .it says I can couse all kinds of other things so the new 02 sensor showed up today put it in tomorrow reset the ecm and see what happens. I have 2 hundred thousand miles on the engine and just going to go down the line if it doesn't stop. Have never changed fuel filter lol
