My credo
I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
There IS a reason other than looking goofy, I just don't know what it is. @ZMan may be on the right train of thought. You may be thinking of the current "squatted stance" full size trucks are going through. That's definatley a "fad".

Yes, the reason is so you can steer without the tires and fenders trying to occupy the same space at the same time. Sure, you can lift the rear too, but then the truck isn’t as low as it can go. What’s the point in building a low rider and lifting it as high as you can to drive?!?!

Having the front aired up and the rear pressure down can help stop porpoising. Porpoising is when the front and rear suspensions act in different directions at the same time, it’s basically bucking like a bull ride or a boat in between waves. It’s usually mild, but it can be violent depending on the chassis setup. Good shocks will usually stop it, but you can’t always put shocks on a bagged truck.

Driving on bags with no shocks is a learning experience. If you find the right pressure, it’s not that bad. If you find the wrong pressure, it’s flat out dangerous. It will never be good.

All the mechanical bits are done. It is now safe to let sit and idle while we watch live data on a scanner to figure out the rough idle. Every piece of emissions equipment has been deleted from this thing. Running down the road it does ok, except for a high idle between shifts. I feel it might have a vacuum leak, or it's running pig rich, or both, I don't know. It is throwing codes for everything they took off EXCEPT for the cat, I'm a little baffled as to why it has no P0420 code.
What I've done to this point:
New power steering pump
170amp alternator and 0 guage wiring
New Radiator and lower hose
Aftermarket coolant reservoir
New intake tube and filter (waterproof cover is in the mail)
New front airbags
Adjusted tailgate so it will open and close without problems
What it still needs (or what I want to do):
Tires
Alignment
Tilt column
Windshield
Reseal rear window
Replace air tanks
Reconfigure 4-link
Electric fan
Front shocks
Front sway bar
Repowdercoat wheels
Redo interior (least of my concerns)

Took it around the block tonight, now the front brakes are locked up 🤣. Set it back up on jackstands to diagnose this new problem.

Older Rangers are a common sight in the Upull yards, but, sadly, there seems to be fewer and fewer with every passing year.

I've gone to pullapart regularly for the past 15 years, i mentioned to my buddy today how it's been strange to watch the inventory change and the older ones get harder and harder to find. They actually had a 92 and an 88 extended cabs there, i wish i had my Sawzall so I could cut the roof off to possibly use on mine in the future. I'll go back again and get it.

I went 20 minutes farther to go to this particular pullapart, in Canton, since it had about 3 times as many Rangers than the one in Akron. We got everything we needed for my buddies S10 too, and a pair of cavalier seats I've been meaning to pick up for a customer.

Grew up in the 70s, 80s, and 90s
our one pullapart doesn't have to many rangers anymore. the next one is 1.5 hours and we go every once in a while if the online inventory shows a few cars we need parts for
