Sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you.
I heard a bang when I stepped on my front brakes. Now I hear scraping sound when coming to a slowing stop. Any ideas before I remove both tires.

I'm thinking that possibly a pad clip broke off.

Have you taken your wheels off to inspect? It sounds like a caliper and/or pads are loose.
I had cheap auto parts store caliper retainers in mine. They were so low quality that the "nubs" that hold them in were too small. The retainer slipped out and made contact with my rotor creating a scraping sound.

Thanks, I did not take the tires off yet. But this sounds right what you posted.

The noise was a bad inner brake pad and shot rotor.

does that mean the caliper was locked up and not allowing the outer pad to contact the rotor??

how worn is the outer pad? and the other side?

That's a good question.
The outer pad was worn about 70%, but not as bad as the inner pad. The inner part of the rotor was bad, the last time I changed the brakes, but I couldn't get it off, so I just put a new set of brakes on, and knew eventually I'd need to replace that rotor. So I think the caliper is ok. Good call.
