I have a 1984 ranger 2wd with the 2.8 v6
I can’t seem to fix this problem where the engine isn’t able to be floored or given lots of throttle or else it will just make a popping sound somewhere In or under the engine bay
Also if you give it too much gas after stopping at a stop sign it will just die

Is the truck durasparked?

And what all have you tried? My first thought would be to ensure the timing is on, and take a look at replacing the power valve.
