My credo
Work hard and play harder
Here is what I did. Bought a 96 Expo AWD for the motor and harness, 4R70W trans, swapping in the axle from the donor (LS 3.73 w/ disks), 31" custom driveshaft, purchased Torque Monster headers and installed true duals w/ a Flowmaster 50 series.

I get about the same fuel economy as my 3.0 of sorts. I have the original Ranger 8.8 open diff 4.10 under it still.

As far as your engine/tranny combo, the 302/AOD combo came in many ford cars and trucks from the early 80's-93.
I'm running a 1985 HO 302 w/ a 600 cfm Holley and a 1991 Mustang AOD transmission

so i could take the 302/AOD out of a explorer and use that engine tranny combo in my ranger? I have a V6/AOD

I went to a 4 barrel carburetor on my 82 f150 years ago and the aod did not hold up because the kick down rod is wrong. Just make sure you get the right one or it will burn it up

Hi dudes!:yahoo:
An AOD transmission works well behind a 302 engine?
My project is a 1985 Ranger, single cab and short bed whit manual transmission 4 speeds + over drive, 2.3L. I want a 302 engine, an AOD transmission, 8.8 differential limited slip with disc brakes for my swap.:headbang: which car / truck can i choose like a donor with these pieces? automatic transmission that has the 95 explorer? all my desires are compatible with my ranger?:icon_confused:
I appreciate your comments.
Thanks.
I have put an 8.8 out of a 02 Sport Trac with rear disc under my 92 ranger reg. cab 2wd. It has 411 gears and I installed a new Ford Trac Loc LS. I'm preparing to slap in a 240hp 325 torque carburetor crate with an AOD..wish me luck...lol

Dude this thread is 13 years old. From 2011 initially and bumped like this in 2017.

Please look at thread/post dates because old stuff will come up in a search and suggested threads. You're better off starting a new thread than bumping an old one like this.

Good luck with the swap though.
