AI thought the 5r55e was based on the a4ld which has no removable bell housing.
It has a lot of milesWelcome to TRS
How many miles on the old transmission?
You can put on a new bell housing, it is a separate part, but does require some disassembly and rebuilding
But you could have a new trans in the end, depending on the parts you replace while its apart
A used automatic is a roll of the dice, like any used parts but more so since more can go wrong with an automatic, lol

Need a 1998-2011 5r55e. You cannot use a 2wd trans, cannot use a trans from anything except a 4.0, cant use anything earlier than 98.
There were changes in the speedo sensor at some point and I can't remeber when but you can adapt either style to work on either system with a little
I have had this truck for 7 years and have had no major problems my son will be doing the work on it I’m trying to research and find out what would be the best thing for me to doThen a used trans is not as big a gamble unless you were going to do a full rebuild on yours
As far as I know all automatics have to have a removeable bell housing for rebuilding purposes
But not like the old manuals, the back of bellhousing is also the front case of the main pump, so not easily swappable
You were kinda right. I’ve cut the bell housing off of powerglides to put SFI scatter shields on... That makes it “removable” with the correct tool.Yes, should not have said all
My th400 has the bell cut off and an ultra bell installed so it fits bb ford. Just bolts on with the pump..You were kinda right. I’ve cut the bell housing off of powerglides to put SFI scatter shields on... That makes it “removable” with the correct tool.
