my truck is a pos. and it is dangerous. and i love it. but i sure as fawk would not compare it to anything new.

that said....no one makes a truck i want/need. i will have to build it no matter what. i just need a solid platform to shorten that time frame of build to suit and maximize comfort over the junkpile i currently drive.

the difference between dying and walking away... a new pos truck with shitty crumple zones will allow you to crash another day....and older truck that may be salvagable will have to go on without you. because your fawking dead.

this is a travesty......so i agree with you about comparatives when looked at in this context....these guys need kicked in the balls. i/we talked to them at the ranger reveal....and i gave him shit about this particular video.

but....as bad as that is, there is no comparing anything from the 70's to current production.

the stuff from the 70's is pure junk compared head to head....

i am ok with junk though....i like junk.

I wouldnt say its junk. A 70s truck will do anything a new one will, just not legally, quickly, or as efficently.

Ive seen all those videos before, the civic/150 demonstrates exactly why new trucks ride so low in the front, in my opinion making them less overall capable.

The 79 F350 crash test, yes, you would be subject to greater inertia forces, but, atleast the cab doesnt deform into a crushed can. Plus, ive always thought the head on crash tests were dumb anyways, if youre paying 1 ioata of attention theres no reason why you shouldnt be able to get swerved enough to take it more as a glancing blow, even on shitty roads.

That 76vs17 comparo is the reason i quit watching those guys.

All i know boys, if ive had 2 pretty serious wrecks in dentsides, my 79 F100 took a sideways grand prix in the rear 1/4 panel, with my front drivers side, guy was drunk as hell and lost it, cop estimated his speed at 70, i was doing 50 or so, other then a some bruises from the seat belt i was fine.

The other was a 77 F150 4x4, guy in a 2wd superduty reg cab ran a red, t boned me front drivers side, other then smacking my head on the door sill and some minor cuts from glass i was fine, that asshole was doing 40-45.

So, from my experences, dents are perfectly safe.

That being said though, the best safety feature is behind the wheel. I dont like my wife driving my 77 or 97, espicially in the winter. She has never owned a vehicle that wasnt front drive with ABS, and i know the minute the tires lock or the ass end kicks out she'll panic. I on the other hand hate ABS and FWD, takes all the fun out of stuff.

I have never really felt safe in a 1st gen ranger, but, they seem to be pretty resilant when it comes to things like deer hits, parking lot incendents, etc.

None of my trucks are "POS"es.

Ill bet my trucks do more work in a damn week then that grocery getter 3.0 edge does in a frickin year. Just because (mainly the 77) has some patina and scars earned from hard fought battles and a life of servitude doesnt qualify it as a POS.

Fastest ways to piss me off is by insulting my family, my trucks, or my ol lady, in that order.
Rediculousness.

Here, watch this...i forgot about this little video. Granted, its not perfect, seeing as how its done with a 78/79 F150, its not "offset" and its against an 89 or so escort, but it illistrates what im talking about, and collisions this style are much more common then a dead nuts high speed "offset" head on against 2 vehicles of the same "class". Not to mention, the 78/79s had notched fenders and hoods to crumple more, a 77-back would have sliced it in half.

https://youtu.be/3ReZ0C_UF-8

Shoot it full of holes if you wish, but i know which one id rather be in.

Or this...steel 150 vs aluminum 150, yeah, looks safe.

https://youtu.be/3TjQo9jnCew
That's military grade aluminum alloy.

Both you two, cool it.

Friendly debate is one thing, if you have to resort to insults and name calling you are doing it wrong.

Thread has been edited to look halfway respectable.

If ford is really, truely serious about stealing wrangker sales, we might be surprised...

Personally, this was my favorite rendering of a new bronco...

Obviously thats F150 based, but truely looks like what the bronc would look like today had it never left.

Not a fan of the tarp color or the spare on the back?

We really know nothing about it to hate.

Play nice and it is no big deal.

They had a render somewhere with a US Ranger nose stuck on a Everest. It looked a lot better than an Explorer As someone whose wife wants an Ecosport (because it is cute :icon_thumby:) I would rather have that for a family vehicle.

The newer explorers look to much like the new edge, i think both resemble a turtle. The escape/ecosport look to much like an over inflated fiesta.

One vehicle i would consider if i had a family, would be a Flex. I know, no 4wd, but eh. They seem to kinda be the darkhorse of fords fleet.

If the wife would let me, if i did decide to screw the world with a little rusty, would be this...

But, knowing how she feels about my 77...itd never happen. Maybe i could paste excursion badges on it and fool her?

That being said, i wonder how a kid seat would fit in a new Challenger R/T? :D

Explorer isn't bad looking, I think they have ran that bodystyle long enough though. And now GM copied it with their new Traverse.

They feel huge inside. Door panels are really tall, windows feel small, console is obtrusive.

Mom has one, I ain't gonna fuss for one. I do like that they FINALLY figured out how to put second row buckets in. She got option which is sweet... now that we never ride back there. All the family vacations in the '94 Explorer with the non adjustable lowback bench seat and no headrests...

That wouldn't be a bad style if they actually did something similar to that. It looks more like a Bronco than the other designs that have been rumored. The trouble is what are they trying to do for size. Thought something was mentioned that it would be smaller than the old 80's & 90's Bronco's, so that would put it between a Bronco 2 and the full size then, probably about the size they were in the 60's & 70's I'd assume.

That's military grade aluminum alloy.
Oooh Military grade. That means it must be super special right? Let's take a look.

These alloys (also known as 6XXX or 6000 Series alloys) are aluminum / magnesium - silicon alloys (magnesium and silicon additions of around 1.0%, in the form of magnesium silicide – Mg2Si) and are found widely throughout the fabrication industry, used predominantly in the form of extrusions, and incorporated in many structural components. The addition of magnesium and silicon to aluminum produces a compound of magnesium-silicide (Mg2Si), which provides this material its ability to become solution heat treated for improved strength. In addition to Mg2Si , 6061 alloys typically contain 0.28% Cu, 0.20% Cr; 6063 alloys contain 0.7% Mg.

6063 alloy is one of the most popular alloys in the 6000 series, as the alloying components allow for great extrudability and a high quality surface finish. This alloy is used in several industries, including:

•Door and Window Frames

•Railings and Furniture

•Architectural and Building Products

•Electrical Components and Conduit

•Pipe and Tube for Irrigation Systems

After being heat-treated, this alloy is corrosion-resistant as well as resistant to stress corrosion.

This alloy is also often used in electrical applications in the T5, T52 and T6 tempers due to its good electrical conductivity. In T1, T4, and T52 tempers is provides for good formability. For anodizing purposes, T5 and T52 tempers provide a great surface for a classic matte finish.

6061 alloy is one of the most widely used alloys in the 6000 series. It is one of the most versatile of the heat-treatable allows; it is very popular for medium to high strength uses and has great toughness characteristics. This alloy is used in several industries, including:

Aircraft and automotive components
Machinery and Equipment Applications
Recreation Products
Consumer Goods, such as soda cans and aluminum foil

6061 is used by many extrusion houses for rod and bar products, including pipes and tubes. This alloy has excellent corrosion resistance to atmospheric conditions and good corrosion resistance to sea water.

This alloy also offers good finishing characteristics and responds well to anodizing; however, if cosmetic appearance is critical, 6063 is preferred.
Ah, so it's just the same aluminum that is used in everything else.

The Early (66-77) bronco was actually smaller then a BII, or it sure looked it.

The last family vacation i remember as a kid, was 80, maybe 81, in dads 75 Club wagon, with an air stream in tow. My fondest memory is climbing onto those tan (err, saddle) colored vynil seats in back, in georgia, in august.

It literally felt like i had sat on a damn stove.
