I feel kind of silly using this forum but I am trying to remove the fake wood dash trim from my sons 1988 ranger and i dont want to break it. we need to get to the back of the aftermarket radio. I dont see any screws holding the trim on.

going off my experiences with a 1st Gen there could be some trim pieces that will snap off to reveal the screws holding the main pieces in

There are 2 or 3 pieces running horizontally across the dash that need to come off. The headlight knob will need to be popped off too. Then there are a few screws and the top of the gauge surround piece toward the top of the steering wheel. They're hard to see, but you can feel them.

+1 with Sunk. The lower dash pieces just snap straight out towards the rear of the truck. I just did this on my '88 and they're stout enough that you shouldn't have to worry too much about breaking them.
