ok yall, heres the thing, probably to understand you need to know the story:
my dad and my grandpa got a hold of a mustang II a while back(like 20 years) they rebuilt the motor(2.8L) to stock. never got the timing right, i decided to tackle it and put a few performance things on it, well a cam and carb swap turned into almost a full rebuild until yesterday when i took the heads off to get some flash rust out when i turned the crank i noticed something bizarre. When turning the crank the pistons came up as though the firing order should be as folllowed:
1,6,2,4,3,5......when the firing order should be: 1,4,2,5,3,6 completely different the only thing i could think of was the wrong crank, but what crank would fit so perfectly and turn the pistons like melted butter so perfectly. i tried looking up everything including the chevy 2.8 along with any other motor and nothing comes up as that firing order. so what in the heck is going on???

but i assume it ran fine. what makes you think the firing order is different? just because the piston came up doesn't mean its on the power stroke

You cant guess firing order by the piston heads or crank. What you see as 1,6,... Could be number 1 firing while number six is on exhaust stroke. Then 2 exhaust stroke, then 4 firing stroke, You have to base it off hte Either valves or distributor, I would use a compression tester if its assembled and then starting at one follow the compression for the order you currently have.

I say this because if the firing order is 1,4,2,5,3,6 when one is firing 6 should be on its way down or else it would shake. however you do make a good point, to double check im going to put the cam in with the time gear put it in time and look at the lifters.

while 1 is firing, 5 will be on its way down.

nobody put a different crankshaft and re-engineered the engine.
