1354 Manual Rebuild

How hard is it to rebuild a 1354 transfer case. I have one that needs bearings, seals, and a chain. However I dont want to shell out $400 to have it rebuilt. Is there any specialty parts I would need? I am an engineering student and have a fair mechanical inclination.

If it needs a chain it's probably in very bad shape. 'Cause just about the only way to get there is oil starvation.

I'd suggest replacing it with a junkyard unit.

It is the only one i can find for a reasonable price. I guess i'll have to get it rebuilt because there are not any other ones around here for less than 300

Do you have an electric shift 13-54 to use as an organ donor?

If so all of the critical wear items are the same.
