I just replaced my automatic transmission in a 92 ranger 4x4 4.0 with a 91 explorer trans.it shifts smooth, holds good, but will not shift to OD.I understand some models have a electronic OD lock out.what is the best way to by-pass or fix it to get the OD to engage?

Are you sure it isn't shifting to OD or is it not going into lock up or both?

Make sure the plug that operates the TC and OD is plugged in. It lives on the drivers side of the tranny above the shifter lever.

I can only get first, second,&drive when I shift manually or let it shift on it's own. I will check the plug tomorrow. thanks

have you checked the codes? my truck has this issue and mine is the 3/4 shift solonoid .at least that is what the computer says it is. if you look in the tech library it tells you how to get the codes and what they mean. here is a link (http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/OBD_I.html) to how to do it
