Brake light problems

I have a 1999 Ranger XLT with brake light problems. When the truck is off everything works fine, But when it's running I have to push the pedal to the floor for the brake lights to come on. Help Please!

I got it working, Pulled the switch off the brake pedel cleaned it with contact cleaner put it back together and we're good

Reads like the micro switch on the top of the pedal has an issue with power assist(power brakes)
