I started my truck earlier today and the starter stayed running I tried shutting my truck off and it would not. So I was freaking out a little bit and then I took my foot off the clutch and it shut off. This is not the first time it has stayed on but this time was the worst of all. What could it be? I was thinking maybe my ignition switch? Please help.

My first thought is starter relay. I meant to say starter solenoid.

Had the same thing happen to mine...pretty sure it was the starter relay too...they tend to short out if the insulator inside cracks (you can't actually see the problem)...this is the little module on the passenger fender...

They are inexpensive enough to replace...and now I always carry a spare...

Some vehicles have a safety switch to prevent them from starting in gear. Most likely the switch is located on the upper side of your clutch pedal shaft next to where your clutch master cylinder hooks up to.

My guess is the ignition switch evidently the safety switch was able to turn off power to the solenoid those two work. Disconnect the stsart wire from the solenoid and turn your key to start and let off the they does it snap back to run position or is it sticking in the start position. Maybe just spray some silicone lock lube in the lock mechanism to loosen it up?
