I would think the 3.8 v-6 is an engine swap by p.o done when the tranny was swapped. I haven't ever heard of the 3.8 in a full size truck. Should have been a v-8 or straight 6.

oops i missed hte part about the 3.8. i never heard of that in a fullsize either. and i also never heard of it bolting up to a c6? it would have to have the same bellhousing as the 302/300/351 (because its obviously not the same as the big block bell housing).
are you sure it is a 3.8?

Some, quite a few, 351's came with the C-6. The 3.8 is basically a 5.0L missing two cylinders. Do think someone did a little swapping as far as the motor goes. Been watching Green Bay game so I might "After further review" come back with some better info.

Nope.

I worked with a guy back in the mid-80s who had 2 F100 pick-ups with the 3.8 and a stick. One was a stepside, the other a short-box. Both were early 80's trucks.

FWIW, my dad had an 84 F150 with the 300-six and a stick.

I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
The 3.8l was only available in 82 + 83.

I didn't either but I started researching it when I got my truck and actually gm had a v6 in their full-size trucks in the early to mid 60s

The 3.8 is basically a 5.0L missing two cylinders.
The only thing the 3.8 has in common with a 5.0 is the boltpattern and roughly displacement per cylinder. The bore and stroke is different, not a cut down V8 like the GM 350/4.3.

3.8 - Bore is 3.81, stroke 3.39
5.0 - Bore is 4.00, stroke 3.00
