ZF S5 42 swap

Has anybody ever swapped a 302 with zf s452 trans into ‘83-‘92 ranger? I have 2” body lift for clearance already just curious about trans tunnel width and if the added weight will cause any problem?

Weight should be no problem, they are not much if any heavier than any other full size transmission... the old 4 speeds with a 205 behind them are like 300+ pounds. A C6 or E4OD are pretty heavy too.

I don't think width will be a big deal. IIRC the ZF I have on hand is not a lot wider than my NP435 that's currently in the truck... the 435 fits very well except the shifter is not in a great spot. ZFs are just really long. I believe there are a couple people here that have used them but I don't recall who.

Love to hear it, thanks for reply. Shifter location on the ZF should be similar to M5OD? Also what are my transfer case options? D35 TTB front and 8.8 rear already equipped
