hey guys I need to replace the valve cover on my truck and I was wondering which one would be the best. I don't need it fancy like a turbo one but an aluminum one or a good steel one. the design on mine is a joke the oil fill cap leaks like crazy and I have tried a couple different caps to see if I could fix it.
I was thinking a fuel injected one off a newer rig but what yr and what do they look like are unknown to me.
some have a dip in the middle? and I guess some don't?

I took one from a 90 something mustang. The one with the screw on oil cap and the vent pipe beside it. Only thing I don't like is that with the vent pipe so close it can be a bit of a pain to try to remove the cap without skinning my knuckles on the clamp (even though I turned it around so only the back is facing the cap).

These VCs also have a few other features like the screw on holders for the heater rad hoses, and wire clip nipples that hold the wires in place better than the original VC (which didn't really have anything of that nature). If you grab one, find the wire clips that go with it...

Only thing I don't like about them is they are flat bottomed so you really have to use some sort of bonding material to hold them down and stop them from leaking. The VC bolts just don't do it justice.

Why oh why did Ford not make a VC that fit OVER the side or INTO the head with a lip I will never understand...short of it costing more than the part was worth. I think it might be worthwhile to pay someone to actually weld a metal lip on the inside rim of the VC...

I found one today that is in really good shape but after fighting for 5 hours to get the head off I left the yard without it...and it was actually glued to the gasket...lol

The car (Mustang) was pretty much torn apart on the inside, but I found the odometer in the back seat...it only had 105,000 km on it...

Now I want the short block!

Where in Washington are you? I have THIS CRAIGSLIST AD with a 2.3L valve cover from a '89 Ranger and if you're in Vancouver or something (I work in Tualatin) and want to meet me, you're welcome to it for free... I even have a oil cap for it. It's not rusty or anything, just dirty and needing a paint job...

Not trying to promote my ad or make money, just tired of tripping over this stuff .

Back when I was running this type I liked it, has a screw on cap that ratchets when it's tight, only one port on it (the little nipple just behind the fill cap) for the breather.

Just for info,i got one of the fabricated aluminum ones from ebay,$129 but a beautiful cover.Screw in billet cap and built well.IIt fits all the 2.0,2.3 and 2.5,s.it does have the dip in the center.i put it on my 98 2.5 and while it wasn't a bolt on deal(on the bottom of the throttle body there is a piece of excess casting that has to be removed)it does go on.Looks trick,but not a bolt on deal,but would bolt on easily if carbed.

also thanks for the info but that is a little more than I am looking to spend @ the moment. I am gathering parts for a v8 swap so I just want to fix the leaky cover not dress up the 4banger.
