I checked my '84 Bll VIN thru the Tech Library and it said that it was an XL. Does anyone have any idea what that means? Is there a way I can find out?

The back glass raises seperate from the lift gate and has the tire carrier on the back. I read somewhere that that was rare. Could that be what the XL is? No problems, just curious.:icon_confused:

not sure exactly but the XL and XLT refers to trim levels and/or options...I tried searching it for you but ended up with about 10,000 hits...they pretty much all came with the 2.9 at the XL level from what I could find...so if you have some special options on your truck or something that is different it may have been an option that other truck buyers didn't go for...

My Ranger had an XL badge on it too (I think) but I replaced the front fenders and took off the dash markings...it had things like A/C, power steering, and a custom trim level including special seats (that I plan to replace) and carpeting...most of that's gone now...but it's still and extended cab...

There was no XL badges on the outside, I found out it was XL thru the VIN. It came with the 2.8, power steering,A/C and cruise.
The driver's seat hinge on one side in mine was broken, so I got 2 inflatable lumbar seats out of a '88 to replace both. Had to run power to them. The only problem is they are blue and my interior is red, just need to dye them to match. The carpeting on the driver's side is ruined, so I need to replace it, also. Plus the headliner.

I have an '89 XL & a '90 XL & another '90 which is an XLT. They are all Bronco IIs. The only difference I can see in them is the XLT has power windows, power locks, tilt steering wheel along with the Premium Sound System which is just a factory amp place in the rear of the BII & better speakers. Neither of my XLs have any of these features. Also the XLs have solid paint whereas the XLT is two tone paint. The other difference I found too is the XLT has the electric transfer case with electric hubs while the XLs have the maual transfer case along with factory manual locking hubs. Not at all sure if all the XLs & XLTs came this way or not but can only go on what I have here. Hope this helps you out. As to why Ford made them this way? I don't have a clue.

i dunno both my rangers are xlt with manual trans windows and doors, 1 color and 14 in aluminum wheels, but both had the nice grey interior.

Everything on mine is manual, tranny, t-case, hubs and windows. But still love my Bll!
