WTF is with Autozone's computer system?

My local autozone useto be somewhat decent, but now its a bunch of highschool kids. I went in a little while ago to buy a bunch of tune up parts, I asked for a thermostat gasket when I got home I went to put it in and he gave me a termostat. I guess I'm partly at fault for trusting he could find such a simple part and not checking it.

yeah, ALWAYS check the part when you go in there. i try to take the old part unless i know exactly what i need.

It's just not AutoZone. Summit awhile back had the Explorer FRPP headers for the 5.0l listed, well they've been disconuied for eight years. They had the same PowerTrax unit listed for both the 28 and 31 spline. Was just at RockAuto this weekend looking for Explorer rear disc parts, hit the buttom to see what they fit and the Rangers were listed also. Just so thankful there are some guys at the parts department of the local Ford dealer who know what's going on. Pulled into a local parts store many years ago and told the guy, I need an upgraded cluch for my 273 Dart. Without a blink of an eye, he said what you need is the clutch from a '53-54' Dodge truck. He was sure right, never did have to replace that one.

I have a suspicion that some of the big chain stores like Advance and Autozone, in the interests of "saving" the company money do not make any effort to try to keep good employees and keep them happy. Why pay someone knowledgeable $12/hr with full time benefits when they can hire an idiot high school kid for $7/hr and part time (with no benefits).....

My local Autozone has really gone downhill lately - up until around February of this year there were five fairly knowledgeable people working there - two of them knew a lot about Fords. Three of the five are no longer there and one knowledgeable person was brought in to replace them (along with three not so knowledgeable people). Now rumor has it that two of those three people that know a good bit about vehicles are actively searching for a different line of work because they have had enough of being treated like crap.....

you said it blue. that's exactly why i left. it's a huge corporation, they'll always have tons of applications to sift through to find employees, they dont care that they treat you like shit. my first performance review there, i scored 27 out of the 30. that amounted to me receiving an .11 cent raise. i'm not exaggerating here. it was exactly 11 cents. what the hell do you want me to do with 11 cents? that's $4.40 extra a week.

i had a buddy that quit about a month before i did. he went to just tires cause autozone was so bad. he was having issues with his benefits, worked there for 3 years and nobody would give him a straight answer on why he didnt have them. the district manager physically laughed at him in the face one day, i couldnt believe it. autozone didnt want him to leave, so they gave him an extra 68 cents an hour. hahahaha....what idiots. in case you cant tell, i'm extremely happy to not work there anymore.

I do have to say its sure nice to walk into my Napa store and the people behind the counter have been working there 5+ years.

I hate my local Napa. I've been in there three times and that's 5 times too many. Sure, the guys there have been there half of forever. But don't you dare walk in and ask for something that they have to actually spend some time looking up. They huff and puff and act like they're gonna drop over dead trying to move around enough to find what you're after while implying that you're an idiot who shouldn't be touching a car. And if they don't have it in stock, it doesn't exist in their known universe. Why don't you try (insert car manufacturer here) for that part?

I really miss the little mom-n-pop auto parts store by my old house....

Not sure with other auto part stores, but Napa stores are independently owned. that thy i only use one of the Napa stores, the company owned store sucks, and most of the other smaller stores.
so its a hit miss like all other parts stores. all my local stores got eaten up but place like Autozone, and o'reilly's.
At least there is still a good 4x4 store/shop. all thy do is jeeps stuff. but i can get axle, 4x4 parts there.

i think the problem with the chain stores like AutoZoo, advanced, and o' reallys is the turn over rate of employees. i work for an Auto Value and we have got 5 counter guys and thats it, 5 people to run the store, deal with customers, make deliveries, etc... now if you look at the time each has spent in the auto industry its clear that knowledge follows seniority. im the newest guy with 4-1/2 years in, the next guy has 6 years, the next has 7, then you jump up to 25 years with the machinist and the store manager, and finally weve got a guy with 30 years. i understand not everyone can find employees willing to spend 30 years working for just over $10 an hour, but if all youve got is a bunch of highschool kids running a store and none have been there long enough to know where all the parts in the store is then youre just setting up for failure. i like my work place and the guys i work with, but im sick of dealing with people all day! dont get me wrong some customers are very intelligent and they know exactly what they need so i can help them out and get them what they want, but the idiots that come up to the counter talking on their bluetooth and expecting me to help them while theyre on the phone (FU buddy!) and then dont even know what year the car is or what size of engine they have when all they want to buy is an oil filter, it just makes me want to slam their head in the hood and then put their lifeless bodie in the trunk! i blame places like autozone for making the public think that they can work on anything, then when they find out theyre in over their heads im supposed to fix it for them? i think its time for a new job:annoyed:
