WTF is with Autozone's computer system?

i always use their online site to make a "shopping list" and then print it out to take with me to the store. goes alot quicker when i can just hand them a paper with their own part numbers and say "here, this." and i know what its going to cost as well. the only bad thing is sometimes their system shows something in stock and it might not be, when i upgraded to areostar drums, they only had one in stock, even though the system showed 3. its only a pain if im in a middle of a project and need a seal right then. once i did get axle seals for a 7.5 instead of a 8.8 , thats why if i can i'll take a seal with me. i really hate making a extra trip.

The local John Deere dealer updates their online quanities every night. They are not live, but are pretty close.

It popped up when i searched for an 85 Bronco II :dunno:

Yes, their parts look up system is crap. If you don't know how to enter the part EXACTLY the way the computer wants it, it tells you NYA (not yet available). I have had mixed results with counter help when I've brought in a list of parts numbers - some tell me that they will go grab them and some will demand to know the vehicle that it is for (which is when I tell them every vehicle that makes up a part of my choptop and watch them make funny faces at me). Finding parts got a little easier when they started letting me look up my own parts though (some of them get upset over that but most just let me alone since they know that I know what I need and they have better things to do than stand there looking stupid while I try to explain why I need a part for a 99 Mercury Mountaineer for a 2000 Ranger or the like).

But yea, most of the counter help seems to be a little short upstairs.... I had one guy tell me (quite convincingly really) that running Autolite copper plugs in my F-150 would be best and that platinums would make it run like crap.....

My F-150 runs significantly better on double platinums though....

Took me THREE separate trips to NAPA to get the seals for my Navajo's rear axle when I was replacing the drums and bearings. I was bewildered as to how the computer got the bearings right but the seals were for a 28 spline.

What Autozone are you shopping at?

I have yet to walk into one where I didn't have to do their job for them and pay them at the end of it.

thats how they all seem the only people that seem to know anything is the managers. I prefer Advance because both the guys know me because they drive Gen2 rangers and i drive a bii.

and if i dont know what im doing they will come out and help me figure thing out.

I hate AutoZone, there just good to rent tools.

I needed a few sensors. thy could not find them. i had to used my smartphone to get the part numbers, then thy could order them.
oh and warranty stuff thy seem to find every excuse not to honor them. thy refused to warranty a O2 sensor, cus my truck does not have EGR. Thy said all cars must have them. if its not there someone removed it.
thy pretty much wanted me to install the EGR system.:annoyed:

I get way better service at my local Napa. any thy honor there warranty's no questions asked. but then again i been doing business with them for 10+ years

I am willing to pay more for the service and less china parts.

That is crazy, I haven't had any warranty issues with stuff. Well, except for when I take a set of brake pads back for a warranty swap and forget which phone number I used last time (I have brake pads under warranty on three different phone numbers). If I give them the number I used the previous time they sometimes get all huffy that I'm returning them too soon. Then I have to explain. Or when I go to exchange something like brake shoes and they ask what vehicle it is for - not thinking I've already said for my 89 Bronco II. Then they can't find them and I have to have them look under the Ranger in my file, then they try to tell me that I can't have Ranger brakes on a Bronco II.....

But I have never had them refuse to honor a warranty yet, I've just had to deal with the idiots they hire (and the local Advance is WAY worse - I was looking for a particular kind of strut spring compressor and asked at Advance - told the guy I did NOT want the macpherson compressor, I wanted a different style and asked if the guy had them for loan, he said yes and ran in the back only to bring me out a box that said real big "macpherson strut spring compressor"..... Uh... no.... thank you for wasting my time, lol).

Have had the same problem at many of stores, Dealing with the monkeys working there. Worst time tho, I was needing the inner bearing for my ol man rangers dana 28....First they gave me one for a f250 or something? Ending up takein the hog's head in...The guy looked and me and said I thought you said the back rear end. I was like dude I have the freakin(used outher words) diff in frount of you does that look like the back rear end?. But now I got a good buddie workin at advance so Im good......for the most part..

You haven't walked into my Autozone , when I'm there.

I'll agree. One good thing bout working there,is I can look up my own stuff

I always look up parts before I go to the store, no matter what store it is. The nearest auto parts store is 15 miles away from my house so I don't like to make needless trips. Usually I call them and have them put their hands on what I need before I show up.

LOL. I can tell you're not a truck driver. ... Just don't use the term "good buddy" around a truck stop, .. it has a totally different meaning on a CB radio. :icon_rofl:

like ANY parts store, it doesnt matter what the name of the store is, it's who is there working.

i worked at autozone for 6 awful months, i'd do as much as i possibly could to help someone.....short of changing the oil in the parking lot for them or something like that. on warranties, if it was in the computer under your number and there's a problem, i'd take it. if it isnt there or you forgot your phone number, that's on you. when i go back there now, i make sure they put my phone number in and make sure that the warranty goes into the computer....i'm not just gonna assume it's gonna be down. i worked with girls there that had NO IDEA what they were doing. didnt know what spark plugs were, didnt know how to change wiper blades and other simple shit. so glad i'm done with that place.

I think that most of them are not car people and have very little knowledge. Example, day before yesterday I needed a replacement electric fan motor (radiator). They kept wanting to sell me a universal electric fan kit. He kept telling me it was a dealer part (because he had no idea what he was supposed to look up). It took 25-minutes to get him to the right place in the computer.

I finally got the right part.

Now to be fair, they are always polite (a little slow) and I've never had a warrenty issue.
