Since my brother basically has destroyed his car by doing idiotic stunts, my parents decided to possibly give him my truck, since they feel it is more reliable transportation for college. So I basically would be gettin screwed out of all the work I've done on it so it would be almost new for me this school year. :bawling: (Upper and lower ball joints, flex fuel sensor, new headliner, power locks, etc.) So I've been browsing craigslist for a possible new ride if they actually follow through on this horrible idea.
I found this lil beauty
http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/cto/1813570768.html

I can't imagine it wouldn't be too hard to fix, and it looks pretty good for a 88.

What do ya'll think?

why would they give him ur truck, when its YOUR truck?

Because, even though I pay for the gas and most of the insurance(I'm 16, I dont get paid enough lol), it used to be my dad's truck til he got an Escape late last year. So in turn they have the right to decide who drives what. Example: for the last week of school I had to drive my bro's Sportogay(Kia Sportage) because my dad did't want to leave his car in the airport parking lot and took my truck.

I know, complicated and stupid, but I gotta listen to what they say.

gona charge em for the repairs atleast :icon_rofl:

1k seems a little much for that 88 tho.

You bet I am lol.

Yeah, I'm thinkin 800 would be a fair offer.
I'm just wondering what the hell would be wrong with it to cause it not to run.

I would tell your parents to get that one for your brother since he was irresponsible with the last truck. And you can find better truck that dont run for around 500 bux, check out ocala4sale.com and the ocala area craigslist. I found a 92 for 450 bux, and it only needed a MAF to run right.

My brother has totaled 5 vehicles. I would rather set my truck ablaze than let him have it. Sorta like when you know your dogs going to die. its better for you to put it out of its misery than have someone else.

dude, go for it, sometimes you gotta spend money to make money.

first gens rock until the body fails!

Did anyone read the Craigslist ad. look at what parts that have been replaced on that truck, this is what happens to a truck that has been abused, badly. This truck sounds like a money pit. on the other hand being 16 you have all the time in the world to work on the thing. Maybe you could call it some kind of home schooling project.

I tried telling them to do something like that or get his car fixed, but they really don't want to spend any money. I would be paying for this truck with the money I was saving up for a lift for the other one. Also my brother is auto retarded. He acted like his 97 Kia Sportage was a race car cause he read somewhere that a Sportage won the baja 400, what he doesn't realize is that car was highly modified. So he has ended up breaking the front left wheel bearing, knocking the front end wayy outta alignment. And in the process burning up a new set of bfg radial t/a's my parents bought for him.

I know the feeling. I really don't wanna see my b3000 go like that. Maybe I could disconnect a few "vital connectors" so they think there is a bigger problem with my truck....:D

That's kinds what I was going to do. I got 2 months of summer left and I work from 4-11. So during the day I have all the time in the world.

so you're brother trashed his first car and your parents think it's a good idea to give him another? F%&K that, me and my siblings got one car from out parents (well i got 2 actually, but i'm the most responsible lol) the rule was, if you wrecked it got tickets or broke stuff, you lost it. i'd point that out to the parents immediately

And the elephant in the room is why isn't it running to the point they let it sit for two and a half years. Blown head gasket/ cracked head? 2nd motor blown? Messed up rats nest of wiring? $25 sensor? I don't think I would ever spend more than $400-500 for a non running vehicle. You may get a great deal or you may have to drop a grand if lucky to get it running. 400 + 1000 and you have 1400 into it. Could sell it for that if you needed to with out going in the hole.

Until it's running it is nothing more than a parts vehicle.

People like to sell their problems to other people. If you are going to buy their problem be prepared to spend the money fixing the problem.

That's what I'm worried about. Maybe if I have time tomorrow I'll go take a look at it and see if there are any major discontinuity's under the hood.
